Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) Oil

  • Palm oil mill effluent is the voluminous liquid waste that comes from the sterilization and clarification processes in milling oil palm.

  • The processes of palm oil extraction and purification generate a large amount of wastewater known as palm oil mill effluent (POME). Currently, most treatment processes are carried out using a conventional ponding system which is outdated as it requires large land areas and long retention time.

  • POME is a waste-based feedstock that is collected at palm oil mills during the palm oil production process. It has been acknowledged as a suitable feedstock for biofuels in the EU Renewable Energy Directive II (RED II). EU biodiesel mandates are rising, and POME looks set to become an increasingly important feedstock.

Empty Palm Fruit Bunch (EFB) Oil / Waste Oil From Empty Fruit Bunch

  • Empty fruit bunch (EFB) is a kind of biomass formed during the production process of palm oil. EFB that used to be disposed of as waste has recently been used as fuel as quantities have increased. EFB commonly has a high moisture content, which lowers the combustion temperature and reduces energy efficiency.

  • EFB is a by-product obtained after steaming and threshing the fresh palm fruit. It refers to the empty husks left after the palm fruit is removed. EFB can be sold to buyers who use it as a biomass fuel or as fertilizer for agricultural purposes.

Used Cooking Oil (UCO)

  • Used Cooking Oil (UCO) is a sustainable raw material made of food industry by-products. It is also known as waste cooking oil, because it refers to edible oils and fats' leftovers used for cooking or frying in food industry, restaurants, and households.
